1. What is ATEX certification
ATEX is the abbreviation of French atmosphere explosive, which means explosive environment. On March 23, 1994, the European Commission adopted the directive "equipment and protection systems for potentially explosive atmospheres" (94 / 9 / EC). This directive covers mine and non mine equipment, which is different from previous directives. It includes mechanical equipment and electrical equipment, and extends potential explosion hazardous environment to dust and combustible gas, combustible vapor and mist in the air. This directive is commonly known as the ATEX explosion protection directive. It defines the technical requirements to be applied to the equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres - basic health and safety requirements and conformity assessment procedures to be used before the equipment is placed on the European market within the scope of its use.
The existing explosion-proof directive ATEX 94 / 9 / EC was completely revised in Europe on February 26, 2014, and the new ATEX directive 2014 / 34 / EC will be enforced on April 20, 2016.

The ATEX directive applies to all electrical and mechanical equipment, parts, protective systems and special safety, control and regulating devices used or likely to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres and produced or sold in the European Union, including equipment and protective systems for surfaces or mines.
Manufacturers of equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres may sell their explosion-proof equipment anywhere in Europe, applying the provisions of the ATEX directive and affixing the CE mark, without considering the application of additional requirements.
